Village President John
Deschane was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin and moved to Crivitz with his
family in 1960. He graduated from Crivitz High School and recently
retired from GCR Tire
Centers, a division of the Bridgestone Corporation, as a manager of the
Marinette store. He is a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Crivitz. His
wife Candy, a native of Crivitz, recently retired from the position of Director of Special Education for
the Crivitz School District. The couple has three grown children and six
grandchildren.
John has enjoyed community involvement beyond village politics, having been
a member of the village fire department, American Legion, and church
council, as well as a founding member of the Crivitz Area Library and
Crivitz Business Association. In his spare time he enjoys reading,
woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren.
John was appointed as a village trustee to fill the unexpired term of his
son Jared in 2000 and took over as Village President in December 2004,
following in his father’s, Carlton Deschane, footsteps. John's current term
expires in April, 2009. John had been
previously elected as treasurer of the Village and served on its first
village board when the village was incorporated in 1976.
As village president, John would like to see an increase in the community
tax base, development of community parks, and economic redevelopment of the
downtown area. Long range planning includes preparations to capitalize on
the impact the Tommy Thompson State Park will have on the community.
John’ s guiding principle as Village President is “Crivitz is a wonderful
place to live and raise children. As a village board, we need to make sure
that Crivitz continues to be that type of a place”.
